Anambra N-Power Beneficiaries Keep Vigil In Hotel To Secure Their Device, Blame Distributors For Poor Handling

Anambra state Npower beneficiaries who are currently collecting their Samsumg and Tecno devices at the Choice Hotels Awka, the state capital have resorted to all night vigil in the Hotel to be able to get their device early the next day after spending the previous day without success.

The device distribution which began Tuesday November 21, 2017 at the Choice Hotels Awka recorded high number of beneficiaries in attendance. The volunteers have received a text message notifying them of  the availability of their device and date for pick up.

But what was supposed to be a smooth process proved otherwise as more than 600 volunteers got messages for the device pick up on Thursday 23 November, 2017 with less than 10 distribution officials in place to attend to them.

Some of the beneficiaries who narrated their ordeal expressed disappointment at what they described as 'poor handling' of the distribution process on the part of MTN officials, contracted by the federal government for the device distribution.

Jovita Udeh, one of the beneficiaries who was originally billed to collect her device on Thursday November 23 but could not secure it due to overpopulation of volunteers wondered why it was difficult for the officials to handle 'ordinary' device distribution.

She said: We arrived here in the early hours of yesterday being Thursday as directed in the message we received from Npower but despite our early arrival, I discovered that many were already here before me. Even the list of names we wrote on arrival was not used as they had to attend to those of Wednesday who they couldn't finish that day. Many of us slept in this hotel last night to be able to get our device today. I wonder why it is so difficult for them.

Another beneficiary, John Iduma decried the poor handling of the process and blame the organizers for sending messages to such a high number of people when they have no requisite staff strength to attend to them.

"How can they send messages to many people when they don't have the staff strength to attend them with ease. I just got my device at about 1: 54 pm today whereas I got to this hotel by 9 am yesterday being Thursday. We stayed all day yesterday but were not able to get our device so we lodged in the hotel. I thank God that finally I've collected mine. I'm very grateful to President Mohammadu Buhari for this empowerment.
