Board Appointments: 'For Appointing Dead Men Into Government Boards, Your Dementia Has Gone Viral! - Fani-Kayode Slams Pres. Buhari

Former Aviation Minister and staunch critic of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Femi Fani-Kayode has blasted Nigeria's president, Mohammadu Buahri for appointing old and incapable people into various boards of  federal government agencies and parastatals, saying that such appointments are proof that the President's dementia has gone viral.

Mr. Fani-Kayode was reacting to the announcement yesterday by the Presidency that it has approved the constitution of governing boards of agencies and parastatals.

The president appointed 209 chairmen and 1258 members to fill several federal government board positions.

A statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation announced the appointments. 

The statement read: "Mr. President considered the approval for the constitution of the boards as well as appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals. The constitution of the boards with the appointments, is a demonstration of this government's efforts aimed at building strong institutions of governance , and by extension, improving the quality of policy formulation and supervision.

But reacting to demographics of persons appointed by President Mohammadu Buhari into the federal government boards and parastatals, Mr. Fani-Kayode said that Mr. Buhari, having forgotten his own age, appointed 81 year old man as Nigeria's ambassador to the United States, adding that it's a proof the President's dementia has escalated.

Mr. Fani-Kayode said: "First you forgot your own age. Then you appoint an 81 years old who drawls, who can barely walk and who wears clothes from the 1940s as our ambassador to the U.S.A.. And now you appoint a man who died one year ago, Sen. Francis Okposo, as Chairman of the Press Council".

"Your dementia has gone viral!"

"Yet it got worse: You just appointed Donald Ugbaja as a member of the Consumer Protection Council. You also appointed Chris Utov as a member of the Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Research. Sadly, like Senator Okposo who was appointed Chairman of the Press Council, they are both dead.

"What is it about you and the dead? Is it some kind of fetish or is it just a manifestation of your love for and practice of corpsocracy? Mr. Fani-Kayode queried.
