Verification: Indigenous Area Council Youth Disrupt N-Power Verification Exercise, Says Only 6 Out Of 915 Shortlisted Are Indegenes

The on-going physical verification of pre-selected applicants into the federal government Social Investment Programme, N-Power took a new twist in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja  yesterday as some unsuccessful applicants stormed the Council secretariat to protest what they described as "poor representation" of indigenous youth from the area in the N-Power shortlist.

Physical verification of pre-selected applicants into N-Power programmes took off nationwide on Monday December 11, 2017. A statement from N-Power had directed successful pre-selected applicsant to proceed to their local government of residence for the exercise.

According to an eye witness, Prince Ike who shared the development on social media, youth of the area disrupted the verification exercise when they discovered that out of a total 915 applicants shortlisted for physical verification, only 6 of them were indigenes of the Area Council.

Mr. Ike wrote: "I appreciate the effort of the concern Abaji Area Council youth for stopping the N-Power screening because out of the 915 shortlisted names of Abaji Area Council we have only 6 that are indegenes and resident in the Area.

The angry youth pasted a placard with inscriptions rejecting the shortlist and calling for inclusion of more indegenes of the area.

An inscription in one of the placard read:"No N-Power screening in Abaji Area Council  because about 96% of those that their names appear in the list are non-indegenes or residents of Abaji Area Council.

Prince Ike, apparently one of the disgruntled Abaji youth therefore called on indigenous youth of the other five area councils in the FCT to follow their example and do the same in their respective council areas.
