BREAKING: Former Gov of Taraba, Jolly Nyame Sentenced to 14 Years in Jail | CNR

                  


A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has sentenced a former Governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame to prison.

The Economic and Finanacial Crimes Commission, EFCC had charged Mr. Nyame on 41-count charges of allegedly embezzling N1.64 billion during his two term in office as Taraba Governor from 1999 to 2007.

According to witness provided by the EFCC, Mr. Nyame approved the diversion of various fund to the tune N345 million to Saman Global, a company, within five weeks in 2005.

Mr. Nyame however denied knowing the company. But the court found him guity of breaching public trust after Mr. Nyame admitted to approving the memo ordering the transfer of the fund to the company.

Mr. Nyame was consequently found guilty of 21 out of the 41 count charges against him, the presiding judge, Adebukola Bankole held.

The court sentenced Nyame to two, five, seven, and 14 years in jail respectively after he was convicted for four charges that include receiving gratification, obtaining public funds without due consideration and criminal breach of trust.

The terms will however run concurrently, meaning that Mr. Nyame will serve 14 years in jail baring any contrary decision of the superior court.
