Permanency: G-111 Reacts to Afolabi's Live Chat, Suspension of 8 N-Power Beneficiaries

Nearly two weeks after Mr. Afolabi Imoukhuede, aide to president Mohammadu Buhari on Job Creation and Youth Employment ruled out the possibility of absorbing 2016 N-Power beneficiaries into civil service, outspoken N-Power permanency group, G-111 for Permanency has reacted to the live chat.

The group described the federal government insistence on sending the beneficiaries away as "ill conceived, an affront to Nigerian youths and a move that has further widened the inglorious gap between the rich and the poor in Nigeria".

It also condemned the suspension of eight beneficiaries for demanding permanency, describing the action of N-Power as "arbitrary, unwarranted and callous".

Mr. Afolabi had during a Facebook live chat with beneficiaries on Monday September 17, 2018 dismissed the agitation for permanency, but said the federal government will announce an exit package for the exiting volunteers in October.

But in a statement on Friday by its Publicity Secretary, Bolanle Abiodun, G-111 frowned at the decision and expressed hope that it was not too late for the government to retrace its step and reconsider absorbing the beneficiaries into federal civil service.

"We monitored the recent Facebook live chat with Mr. Afolabi Imoukhuede, aide to president Mohammadu Buhari on Job Creation. We are quite surprised to observe that such a critical issue as permanency of beneficiaries was relegated to the 'last but not the least' issue addressed by Mr. Afolabi.

"We view this as a calculated effort to diminish to towering popularity of this noble agitation. The government position and insistence on kicking the beneficiaries out to start roaming the streets is nothing but an ill conceived idea, an affront to Nigerian youths and a move that has further widened the inglorious gap between the rich and the poor in Nigeria.

"We are dismayed by this action but believe that it is not too late for the government to retrace its step and reconsider its position. If the fate of 200,000 Nigerian graduates and youths cannot attract serious concern from the federal government, one would wonder what else can. In the next few days, we shall unveil our next strategy towards realizing this noble goal.

"We equally condemn in strongest terms, the arbitrary and unwarranted suspension of eight beneficiaries from Ondo state following their appeal for permanency in a video. We see this action as callous, inhuman and wicked. We therefore demand immediate reinstatement of the affected volunteers and their stipends restored to active. We did not see anything in the said video message that could attract such punishment.

"We shall contact the affected persons as a way of showing solidarity. We are solidly behind them at this difficult time and we shall continue to echo the concerns the raised in the video; which is also the ideology on which G-111 for permanency was founded.

"On the proposed exit package, we view anything order than permanency in civil service as the Greek gift but only those who have foresight can see it coming. We also hold that this is the position of the vast majority of beneficiaries as reflected in various opinion polls we have conducted".

They urged beneficiaries to continue to support them in their campaign for permanency, adding that it was in the best interest of every beneficiaries that they are leading the agitation.
