Urhobo Leaders Reject Sen Omo-Agege, Buy Nomination Form for Emerhor

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege

Urhobo political leaders and elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta Central senatorial district, have expressly rejected Ovie Omo-Agege, the senator representing the area in the National Assembly,

They made their decision public on Sunday, when they stormed the country home of the Delta State APC leader and the party's 2015 governorship candidate, O'tega Emerhor, at Ewvreni, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state to prevail on him to contest the senatorial seat in the forthcoming 2019 general election.

The party faithful came with the APC Senate expression-of-interest form, as well as the nomination form, to appeal to him to join the race.

Presenting the form to Emerhor, leader of the Urhobo political leaders and elders, Sylvester Kowho, who spoke on the group’s behalf said: "At this moment, there is vacuum in the Delta Central Senatorial seat. The person we have there in the Senate is a rascal and disgrace to Urhobo nation; and we are saying that we want a change in the Urhobo Senate position.

"Senator Omo-Agege is not fit to represent the good people of Delta Central. He has disgraced the Urhobo nation enough, especially the rascality displayed few months ago in the issue of the stolen maze of the National Assembly.

"We want our Delta State APC leader, Olorogun O'tega Emerhor to take over the Delta Central senatorial position. We want him to go there to make a change for the Urhobo nation. We beg you Olorogun to accept our plea and we have taken the pain to buy you the senate forms and we hereby present it to you. Please accept it."

In his response, Emerhor expressed joy and thanked the Urhobo APC elders and leaders for the gesture, saying, "I have heard you. I am from Delta Central and I am the leader of APC in Delta State. Delta Central is the heartbeat of APC as you know; the representation Delta Central must represent; must be for the interest of Urhobo and Delta State”.

According to Emerhor, "We have the current representation; but as the elders said, the present Senator is not representing the Urhobo nation well and he is not reflecting the culture of the Urhobo in Abuja. What we hear is rascality, thuggery. We don't hear diplomacy; we don't hear negotiation. He is even creating problems for President Muhammadu Buhari he claims to be supporting.

"But we will go there to represent the Urhobo to solve problems and work with Mr. President; and do things in a way that he (Buhari) can implement his agenda; that is what we will do. You people have come to ask me to run. You know it is a serious matter; you bought the form worth N7 million by yourselves and presented to me. I have heard you and I am going to consult my immediate family and my political advisers, because the form has a deadline.”
