Python Dance II: Yoruba Group, OPC Fumes, Warns FG, Nigerian Army Over Nnamdi Kanu

President Mohammadu Buhari, IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu and Army Chief, Tukur Buratai
Foremost Yoruba socio-cultural group, Oodua People's Congress (OPC) has condemned the on-going military campaign in the South East region code-named 'Operation Python Dance, describing it as 'an obvious attempt to arrest the growing influence of the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This was contained in a statement issued by the OPC Thursday September 14, 2017 and signed by Yinka Oguntimehn, its Publicity Secretary.

The group said that the Federal Government must be careful in handling the IPOB issue, adding that any agitation that has been able to attract international sympathy and support like IPOB should be handled with utmost care and high degree of diplomacy.

The OPC was of the view that the implication of the military presence in the East and North east of the country at the same time naturally sends signal of civil war in the country to the Internation Community, and discourage investors from coming to the country.

The Yoruba group which noted that history does not favour military suppression of agitating group, cited the example of Odi in Niger Delta region of Nigeria which led to the emergence of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) that became even stronger and damaged the nation's economy despite ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo's effort to muscle the South south community to silence.

Warning against actions that threaten the nation's democracy such as the on-going military attack on IPOB and Umuahia leading to the alleged killing of some IPOB members, the group said 'all efforts must be made to guide jealously the hard earned democracy which individuals and groups fought hard to enthrone, adding that the nation's democracy is daily being threatened by sundry issues chief among them being injustice, insecurity and troubled economy.
