Codeine: Senator Sani Slams NAFDAC over Emzor Shutdown | CNR

Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kanuda Central) has blasted the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration & Control, NAFDAC, for shutting down Emzor Pharmaceuticals Ind. Ltd. over suspected production of the recently banned codeine.
Senator Sani said the action of NAFDAC is an overkill.
Director-General of the Agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, had in a statement on Monday, announced the shutdown of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, alongside two other Pharmaceutical companies after findings from investigations and inspections at the affected companies revealed that they still manufacture codeine contained-drug.
Other companies affected are Peace Standard Pharmaceutical Limited, Bioraj Pharmaceutical Limited.

But Senator Sani who reacted to the development through his twitter handle on Wednesday criticised the move as needlessly severe penalty.

He argued that reputable companies like Emzor that employed thousands of Nigerians should encouraged instead of ruining it.
He twitted: "The shutdown of Emzor and two other pharmaceutical companies by NAFDAC is an overkill.
"Issues of violations if actually true, can be penalized with proportionate sanctions. Such reputable companies doing legitimate business & employing thousands of Nigerians must not be ruined", Senator Sani said.
