GEJ Blasts APC, Says Party Running Short Of Lies To Feed Nigerians

Former President Goodluck Jonathan

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to the statements credited to some leaders of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) asserting their oft repeated claims that the ex-President and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) looted the country dry before leaving office in 2015.

It should be recalled that some leaders of the ruling party and in particular, APC national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi and a former governor of Benue state and APC chieftain, George Akume had recently made public statements alleging that the current economic situation of the country was a direct consequence of massive looting of public fund perpetrated by the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP government.

In a statement posted Tuesday September 12, 2017 on his Facebook handle and signed by his media aide, Reno Omokri, Mr Jonathan expressed shock that the ruling All Progressive Congress has 'again decided to stand truth on its head by claiming that nobody looted like former President Goodluck Jonathan', adding that it is indication that the 'party is at it's wits end and is running out of lies to feed Nigerians'

Mr Jonathan who noted that no court has indicted or convict him of corruption, said the ruling APC should be reminded that he (Jonathan) as President, neither operated a foreign bank account nor owned a property abroad.

"We remind the APC that former President Goodluck Jonathan once truthfully declared that hes has no accounts or property abroad. There is a Freedom of Information  Act signed into law by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and I urge Bolaji Abdullahi and those who pull the puppet strings to take advantage of it in verifying that assertion", the statement read.

"In any case, if the Jonathan administrative was corrupt, what does that say about Bolaji Abdullahi who was a member of that government for three out of its five years? By indicting Dr. Jonathan, Mallam Bolaji Abdulllahi also indicts himself, after all, he did resign from that government until former President Goodluck Jonathan sacked him".

" It is funny that no evidence of looting has ever been established against Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, yet the APC believes he looted, yet though evidence abounds that ex-military head of state, General Sani Abacha looted, they believe and have publicly said 'Abacha did not loot''.

"The statement also blame the ruling APC for inability of the country to improve in the Corruption Perception Index of Transparency International since 2014 when the country made her best improvement till date under Dr Jonathan-led PDP government after sacking people like Bolaji Abdullahi, adding that 'Transparency International saw it fit to improve Nigeria's Corruption Perception Rating by 8 points', a position Mr. Jonathan said 'we occupied since in 2014 because of him".

In an apparent reference to the former governor Rivers State and current Nigeria's Minister of Transport, Chibuike Amechi, Mr Jonathan said APC as a party, is a dumping ground for indicted corrupt politicians.

"A government that harbors a man who was indicted by a duly constituted Judicial Commission and even makes him minister has no moral authority to point fingers at others".

"These lies only go to show that you can use propaganda to get to power, but you cannot use propaganda to stay in power", the statement conclude.
