Python Dance II: Anambra Guber Candidate Vows To Check Human Right Violations, Assembles Team Of Lawyers, Rights Activists

The gubernatorial candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in Anambra State and Nigeria's former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has disclosed that he has deployed mechanism to check crackdown on Human Rights in the South East region following Nigerian Military's commencement of Operation Python Dance II in the Region.

Nigerian Army had recently announced that it has deployed soldiers and security apparatus to the South East region to combat what it called 'violent agitations and kidnapping in the region'

In a statement issued by his campaign organisation, The Osika Chidoka Campaign Organisation Tuesday September 12 2017 and sign by its media director, Viola Okolie,  the UPP candidate for the November 18 2017 guber election in Anambra State said that whereas he was not against any genuine effort to ensure security of lives and property in the region, 'we are equally concerned about the safety and wellbeing of our regular citizens who are now falling victims of reported abuses and infractions by unscrupulous uninformed men as usually associated with such operations'.   

While noting that the Campaign Organisation is not leaving any to chance regarding the operation, he called on Ndigbo to be peaceful and law-abiding.

"While we call on all our citizens to be peaceful and law-abiding, we will definitely not accept any deliberate act of provocation, harassment or infringement on the constitutionally guaranteed rights of our people by uninformed men, and for this reason we demand from the military high command, assurances of utmost professionalism and strict observance to international best practices and approved rules of engagement." 

The UPP governorship candidate therefore disclose that he has assembled a team of lawyers and human rights activists who volunteered to work work with him to ensure that any act of infringement against innocent citizens is taken up for prompt legal action.

"Already we have lawyers and human rights activists who have volunteered to work with us on pro bono basis to ensure that any act of infraction against the constitutionally guaranteed rights of any of our people is immediately taken up through legal and constitutional means", a statement read in part.
