Piqued by the continued killings by Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country, the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB have warned Fulani herdsmen to keep off from the South-East and South-South regions as any attempt to disrupt the peace in the region will be met with retaliation.

The Biafran independence groups noted that herdsmen would have themselves to blame should they fail to abide by their warning, Punch newspaper reports.

Obviously reacting to the recent killings by herdsmen in Benue, Taraba and Southern Kaduna, MASSOB and IPOB in separate statements on Thursday December 18, 2018 vowed to ensure the security of lives and properties of people of the Southeast and South-South regions of the country.

Addressing journalists in Owerri, MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike who spoke through his deputy, Mr. Emmanuel Omenka said the group will go to any length to ensure the safety of people of Eastern region since the federal government of Nigeria has proved incapable of protecting citizens from mindless killings by Fulani herdsmen.

MASSOB said they have concluded arrangements to unleash over 10,000 Biafran security operatives to secure and guard the South-East against the endless attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

Mr. Omenka said: MASSOB  is ready and would not fold its hands to see the Fulani herdsmen invade, attack and destroy lives and properties of the people in the South-East and other areas of Biafra".

He further reiterated the group's commitment to safety of their people, adding that it will not allow the incident of 2017 in Enugu state and recent ones in Benue state to repeat itself in the South-East and South-South regions.

On its own part, IPOB, through its spokesman, Emma Powerful, warned the Fulani herdsmen to steer clear of the South-East and avoid any temptation to attack the peaceful people of the region.

"Any attack on the South-East or Biafraland would be met with retaliation from IPOB. I therefore state that the reprisal would be better imagined than expressed", the statement by IPOB said.
