Four Steps To Discovering Your God-given Talent

|by Chris Ezemoyih

Many things have been said and written about how one can rightly identity his God-given talent and by so doing, achieve a more fulfilling life. But most times, these tips are too ambiguous and not very specific and clear-cut to enhance easy understanding and application.

Here, effort is made to simplify the four basic steps one can take to discover his or her talent and tap into them. Remember that discovering your mission in life will not only help you achieve financially freedom, but will ultimately give you great joy and deep sense of fulfillment. Here are the four steps:

# What Captivates Your Interest: What is it that captivate your interest? What is it that usually draws and retain your attention when doing it or you watch others do it? That's a pointer to the direction your life is going.

While growing up, I was always interested in media and news articles. I had wonderful time reading Dad's weekly magazine and sometimes daily newspapers. I also watch news media channels like CNN, BBC and other popular news media. This was long before I got admission to read Journalism in the university. That's the power of interest.

Now let me ask you a question. If I should decide to pay you a surprise visit now, what kind of books and VCD or CD plates will I see in your room? Is it inspirational books or fashion magazine, news magazine or leadership books, instructional videos or phonographic materials? Whichever one you have is a sign to the direction your life is heading.

#Your Inspirational Dream: Have you ever think affirmatively of yourself graduating from a prestigious university, landing a six-digit job, establishing a successful business and acquiring a choice property in a big city. That's inspirational dream.

What kind of job or business did you see yourself working at? I have always seen myself speaking to a large audience as an effective motivational speaker and writing a best selling self-help book. Today, I have published a book and is now visiting different schools and other youth centres for speaking engagement.

To achieve anything in life, you must see it with your mind's eye! That's inspirational dream. Where do you see yourself with your mind's eye? Follow it up.

#What Appeals to Your Passion? Passion in this context means great enthusiasm. I prefer calling it a 'burning desire' to get something done. Is there anything in your area that you are not satisfied about the way it is being done? And you think you can do it better? Go ahead with your plan. That's passion working in you.

Something you have passion for may not be paying you immediately but it is taking you to something. Examine the life of the Biblical Moses and David. They showed strong passion for fighting for, and defending their people. God saw that in them and lifted them to the top so they can affect many more life.

Engage in community service, join nonprofits, render selfless services. Someday, someone who know you will recommend you for the same service at a place you will be paid handsomely. When passion was pushing me join forces with some friends in the university to establish a press club and start publication of weekly newspaper, little did I know that in later years, I would emerged as the university's first ever 'Best Campus Journalist' award winner. That's how passion reward those who follow it. What are passionate about today. Find it and act on it.

#Your Ideas: Idea is different from dreams. Idea means a 'plan formed by thinking'. My friend Michael back then in college was desperately in need of money. So he needed something to do to earn money.

Since many other students were involved in selling clothes and recharge cards, he decided to go into something new and different. The idea of printing jumped into his mind. But he didn't have knowledge about printing. So he figured out what to do. He advertised graphics design and  printing press on campus. Soon after, fellow students and even some staff started giving him jobs like magazines, stickers, postcards, posters, souvenirs, almanacs, dairies etc. He was well patronized by student politicians whom he lobbied. With time, churches and fellowships started coming for him too. 'Ideas rule the world', says the famous German scholar, Karl Max. To be contd...
