Biafra: IPOB Storms Appeal Court Over Proscription Order | CNR

Biafran group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB have lodged an appeal over the decision of a Federal High Court in Abuja which allowed an ex-parte application proscribing the group in September last year.

At the Abuja Division of the Appeal Court on Tuesday, IPOB in a motion dated April 23 prayed the court to stop the Nigerian armed forces from the "harassment, intimidation, incessant arrest and detention of IPOB members.

Federal High Court in Abuja had on September 20 2017 allowed the ex-parte application declaring IPOB as a terrorist organization following an appeal filled by Mr. Abubakar Malami, Nigeria's Attorney-General.

But in a motion by IPOB's lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the group is asking the appellate court to issue an order for parties to assume the position of things before the proscription and maintain the status quo, pending the determination of the fresh appeal.

Mr. Ejiofor maintained his earlier position that IPOB is a nonviolent and peace-loving people whose freedom will not jeopardise the interest of the respondents.
