JUST IN: Presidency Withdraws Dino Melaye's Security Detail

‪The security detail of embattled Senator Dino Melaye has been withdrawn.

The withdrawal is coming shortly after a combined team of police officers besieged his Abuja residence earlier in the afternoon on Monday.

Writing through his Facebook account Monday evening, Mr. Melaye said:

"All my policemen have been taken away with their arms. One CP came and took them away. There is also a plan to set me up again. But in God I trust. Truth will always prevail.‬

An unidentified Commissioner of Police (CP) believed to carry out directive from the Presidency was reported to have taken Mr. Melaye's security aides away.

Mr. Melaye was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in early hours on Monday shortly after he arrived at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.

"I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Govt after checking in", he wrote on his official Facebook account.

Later in the afternoon on Monday, officers of Nigeria Police laid siege on Senator Dino Melaye's Abuja home.

Aide to the senator who pleaded anonymity because he was formally permitted to speak on the matter said the police officers arrived at about 1:40 a.m. at Mr Melaye’s residence in Maitama District.
