ADC to Buhari :Touch Obasanjo and Have Us Shutdown Aso Rock | CNR

The ongoing feud between President Mohammadu Buhari and Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has taken a new dimension with Obasanjo's newly adopted political party, African Democratic Congress (ADC) warning the Presidency not to harm the former Nigeria leader or risk having Aso Rock shut down.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo
Chairman of the ADC, Okey Nwosu who made the party's position known on Friday during a telephone interview with Sahara Reporters, said the Buhari-led government have resorted to hounding the opposition into submission, having failed woefully in delivering their campaign promises to Nigerians.

Nwosu was reacting to the revelation by the former President that the Presidency is planning arrest him on trump up charges and detain him indefinitely ahead of the 2019 general election.

The ADC Chairman noted that President Buhari who described Obasanjo as an advocate of change in the run up to the 2015 general election because the former president supported him then has now turn around to victimized the same Obasanjo for pointing out failings of his government.

Mr. Nwosu said: "What we are witnessing is the desperation of a failed government. When you have mediocre persons that are not focused on handling state power, they often go to dictatorial levels to try to achieve their aim. But this time, the people of Nigeria and God is on our side and we will do our country needs.

"President cannot be touched. When in 2014 and 2015, he was in the vanguard of trying to effect change because of the situation then, they were applauding him as the champion of a new Nigeria.

"Now that things have gone wrong in the area of security and economy and he is speaking out, they are now chasing the champion of new Nigeria. We will mobilize the whole of Nigeria to take over Aso Rock if the governement steps out of line.

Nigeria's leading opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party has expressed worry over the alleged plan by the Presidency to detain the Ex-President, saying the development has further confirm their earlier position that the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government has turned the nation into a police state where dissent voices and opposition now live in perpetual fear.
