Atiku Hails Saraki's Supreme Court Acquittal

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria

Nigeria's former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar on Friday described the Supreme Court judgement exonerating Senate President Bukola Saraki from false asset declaration charges as a proof that the judiciary is "the last hope for the common man".

Reacting to the Friday Supreme Court ruling through a statement issued by his media office in Abuja on Friday, the Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain said the judgement reminded him of his own Acquittal from "multiple suits on corruption " while in office as Vice President.

"I believe that this judgement has given hope to Nigerians in their quest in seeking redress on the grounds that the judiciary will always be fair and firm", Mr. Abubakar said in the statement.

"I am a firm believer in the rule of law and I will never forget the role the judiciary played in emboldening me to continue with my efforts to provide good and quality leadership for Nigeria and Nigerians.

"The multiple suits on corruption which I won during the days of my trail as Vice President will never be forgotten in a hurry. It was an independent, firm and fair judiciary that made it all possible", the statement read.
