N-Power Group Tackles Senator Shehu Sani Over Comment on N-Power

2016 N-Power volunteers group, N-Power-Enhanced Advocacy Movement (NEAM), has replied the statement by the Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, in which he described the scheme as a largesse for achieving political goal.

The group frowned at the statement, describing it as careless, misdirected anger and an insult to the collectivity of Nigeria youths from divers, ethnic, religious, and political backgrounds whose lives have improved significantly since the commencement of the scheme in 2016.

Speaking through a statement by its spokesman, James Obong and received by CNR Nigeria, the group called on Senator Sani to face his sinking political career other than throwing tantrums and blames at anybody and anything except himself.

It noted that President Mohammadu Buhari initiated and implemented the N-Power volunteer corps to accommodate and benefit Nigeria youths irrespective of their religious or political affiliations, adding that reactions of the beneficiaries across the nation must have sent a clear message to the Senator that he did not speak the mind of anyone else except himself.

"We read with great surprise, the statement credited to Senator Shehu Sani in which he described N-Power as a vote buying scheme created by the government to aid their return to power in 2019. We, on behalf of all N-Power volunteers across the nation is hereby this statement dissociating ourselves from the careless and misdirected anger of the Kaduna Senator. We expect that the Senator should be full of thanks to the federal government for initiating the scheme.

"We see his outburst as careless, misdirected and blatant insult on all N-Power volunteers whose lives have improved significantly since the commencement of the scheme in 2016. We may not be comfortable with what we are paid as volunteers, but it might interest Senator Shehu Sani to know that N-Power is the most non-political, transparent and open social investment programme undertaken by any government since independence in 1960. It is therefore wrong to compare it with previous failed and fraudulent attempts like the SURE-P he made reference to.

"Much as we have no intention of dabbling into politics for whatsoever reason, we consider it important to call on Senator Shehu Sani to focus more on how to keep his sinking political career afloat instead of looking every corner for people and things to blame or scapegoat. Until he initiate and implement a better scheme for Nigerian youths, it is needless to hit up the polity with careless  tantrums.

"The reactions of volunteers across the nation to his very controversial statement must have sent a clear message to the Senator that he did not speak the mind of anyone else except himself. At no time have this government or any of its agents expressly directed volunteers to vote only the APC in next year's election. Volunteers have the right and freedom to vote their conscience, having the future of the scheme in mind", the statement by NEAM read.

It called on volunteers to remain apolitical and focus on their assigned duties instead of being distracted by politicians whose aim was to worsen the plight of Nigeria youths.

  1. Now that he loss his senatorial ticket to another person is when he now frowns at social investment programs. He now sees APC as a bad party. APC would had been his most loving party if he had secured a ticket there. A selfish human that only cares about what goes into his account. U shall lose next year's election
