NEAM Gives N-Power 7-Day Ultimatum Over 'N-Power Enhanced' Programme

The group, N-Power Enhanced Advocacy Movement (NEAM) has handed the federal government's youth empowerment scheme, N-Power a seven-day ultimatum to commence immediate implementation of the proposed N-Power Enhanced programme or be ready to face their 'next level' of agitation.

NEAM, a 2016 N-Power volunteers group known for their unflinching support for the proposed N-Power Enhanced programme said that having waited patiently for over a month, it was time to remind the federal government of the need to keep its word about the planned N-Power Enhanced programme.

Federal government had in October announced the unveiling of N-Power Enhanced Programme which it said would be a transition programme for the first of beneficiaries whose two-year contract with the scheme ends this November.

According to N-Power, the enhanced programme would see volunteers go through entrepreneurship training and get empowered to establish themselves after their exit from the scheme. It however said that the beneficiaries would continue to receive their monthly stipends as well as performing their duties at their places of primary assignment while the government finalizes its plan for them.

But over one month after the announcement, nothing have been said by the government or any of its agents concerning the planned N-Power Enhanced programme.

In a statement it sent to CNR Nigeria, NEAM, through its spokesman, James Obong regretted that the government has yet to say or do anything regarding the proposed enhancement programme.

It said that the actions of N-Power is giving credence to the claims of those who said that the government was deceptive and has no plan for the beneficiaries, adding that "the government has seven days to commence immediate implementation of the N-Power Enhanced Programme or face the anger of frustrated Nigeria youths whose only hope of survival is on the planned playoff by the government".

"Having waited patiently for over a month since October 17 2018 when the federal government through the Special Assistant to the President of Job Creation, Mr. Afolabi Imoukhuede announced the good news of the planned N-Power Enhanced Programme, we are left with no choice than conclude that the government has an ulterior motive. We are giving them seven days from today, Wednesday November 21, 2018 to immediately commence implementation of the proposed enhancement projects or be ready to face the anger of teeming Nigeria youths whose only hope of survival is on the planned playoff by the government.

"We are aware of the subtle effort by the N-Power and the government to use gullible and unsuspecting beneficiaries show off perceived achievements of the scheme to Nigerians through what they called N-Power Impact Series Competition. But nothing can be farther from the truth. There's nothing to celebrate about the scheme yet until the future of the first of beneficiaries is clearly spelt out and taken care of".

They urged volunteers to desist from the competition as it will not serve their interest now or ever as it is a mere campaign stunt of the government for its reelection bid. Only the uninformed will fall for this trick. Our position is clear on this.
