Jummat Prayer: Muslim Group Threatens to Disrupt WAEC Exams Over Timetable | CNR

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC has warned the West African Examination Council, WAEC to rearranged its May/June examination timetable to accommodate Jummat prayer or risk disruption of the examination by Muslims.

President of MURIC, Ishaq Akintola said the way examination timetable was structured this year was injustice against Muslims who would be writing the exam and might like to observe the Friday Jummat prayer.

WAEC examination is due to commence on Tuesday March 27, 2018 across participating West African countries but the exam will formerly kick off in Nigeria with Chemistry Practical on the 5th of April.

Some exams in the timetable will hold between 1pm and 2pm, the hours during which Muslims hold their weekly Jummat prayer.

According a report by Premium Times, the MURIC President said: "When there is no justice, there can never be peace and everyone is clamouring for peace. Until something start happening, until Muslims start disrupting WAEC exams, until Muslims start tearing WAEC materials that is when the government will start paying attention.

WAEC is playing games and they want Muslims to make noise every year, the council is deliberately provoking Muslims and it has continued to show itself as a consistent anti-Muslim institution.

"Section 38 subsection 1and 2 if the Federal Republic of Nigeria's constitution stipulates that there must be freedom of worship and WAEC fixing examination for 2pm simply means that WAEC don't want Muslims to worship, therefore WAEC is an oppressor and we are ready for them.
