Transmission Video: Police Denies Reports of Plan to Arrest Journalists, Bloggers I CNR

The police on Sunday denied the media reports that it has launched search for journalists and bloggers over the trending video of Inspection General of Police, Mohammed Idris' speech in Kano.

The police also said that no journalist was arrested or invited for interrogation over the trending video.

In a statement by Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Magaji Majia, the Police described the media reports as false and handwork of mischief makers.

"The attention of Kano State Police Command is drawn to trending headlines in some national dailies and online Media that the ’’ Police Launched prove, threaten bloggers arrest’’ over IGP’s trending video.

"The Command hereby debunks the news as false in its entirety and an act by mischief makers. No journalist was arrested nor invited by the Command for interrogation over the video clip.

"It is crystal clear that the Command maintain cordial relationship with the State Chapter of the N.U.J, the Correspondence Chapel and e all bloggers. The Media outlets responsible for the report had their correspondents here in Kano but none consulted the Command to verify the news.

"No Manhunt of any Journalist what so ever by the Kano Police Command, please", the police statement read.

The police has come under public ridicule in the last week after a video emerge showing the Inspector General of Police,  Mohammed Idris in Kano having great difficulty reading a written speech and making repeated mistakes in the process.
