AU Summit: Naming Of Buhari As Anti-Corruption Champion An Error, Joke of The Year - PDP | CNR

Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described as laughable, the naming of President Mohammadu Bubari as African Union, AU anti-corruption champion, adding that the action 'eminently qualified as Africa's joke of the year'.

African Union leaders had at the ongoing AU summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia named Nigeria's President, Mohammadu Bubari as Africa's anti-corruption czar following his speech at the summit titled: 'Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa's Transformation'.

But the PDP, in a statement issued Monday January 29, 2018 and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the African Union leaders either acted out of ignorant of massive official corruption under Mr. Buhari's watch or were misled by All Progressives Congress, APC Federal Government of Nigeria.

It said that the latest move was part of the planned deliberate efforts by the Presidency to launder the its irredeemably battered image, which has forced it to export its deceptive proclivities to the international arena.

The Statement read: "As we speak, those receiving accolades as champions of anti corruption have not yet cleared the air on the leaked memo detailing underhand oil contracts to the tune of N19 trillion ($25 billion dollars) at the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources which is under President Buhari" s direct supervision as minister.

"They are yet to offer any explanation on the series of reported fraud in the oil sector including allegation of the use of 18 unregistered companies to lift and divert N1. 1 trillion worth of crude oil in the last one year to service APC interest.

This is a government which has provided cover for its corrupt officials including former state governors, who were indicted for looting funds belonging to their state to sponsor their presidential election in 2015 as well as cronies openly indicted for various sharp practices, including padding of federal budget, secret oil subsidy deals and stealing of funds meant for fight against insurgency and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Perhaps the UA leaders need to know that the Presidency has failed to do anything regarding the heinous diversion of N5 billion meant for the IDPs under the Presidential Initiative on the Northeast for which the Senate mounted a stiff investigation, only because officials of APC government was indicted.

They might to be shown the motion by Senator Baba Kaka Garba from Borno Central, who exposed how some individuals known to have connections with the APC, fraudulently cornered N1. 2 billion from the Federal Government under the guise of supplying item to IDPs, only for the money to be diverted for other purposes which are related to APC interest.
