OBJ Slams APC Govs For Endorsing Buhari For Second Term, Says Govs Insensitive, Callous | CNR

Buhari and Obasanjo
Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has berated some state governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for "jubilantly endorsing President Buhari for a second term only a day after 73 victims of Fulani herdsmen attack were given a mass burial in Benue State, describing their action as "a sad symptom of insensitivity and callousness".

This was contained in a "special statement" issued today by the former President and titled "The Way Out: A Clarion Call For Coalition For Nigeria Movement".

According to Chief Obasanjo, the timing of the APC governors visit to the President was "most unfortunate" and points to their insensitivity to the suffering bereaved people of Benue state who lost dozens of fellow Nigerians to Fulani herdsmen attack.

Obasanjo said: "The herdsmen/crop farmers issue is being wittingly or unwittingly allowed to turn sour and messy. It is no credit to the Federal Government that the herdsmen rampage continues with careless abandon and without finding an effective solution to it.

"And it is a sad symptom of insensitivity and callousness that some Governors, a day after 73 victims were being buried in a mass grave in Benue State without condolence, were jubilantly endorsing President Buhari for a second term! The timing was most unfortunate.

He reminded President Buhari that constantly looking for a scapegoat to blame over every challenging situation would not end the Herdsmen/farmers clashes.

"The issue of herdsmen/crop farmers dichotomy should not be left on the political platform of blame game; the Federal Government must take the lead in bringing about solution that protects life and properties of herdsmen and crop farmers alike and for them to live amicably in the same community.

He therefore took a swipe at President Buhari for nepotism, ineptitude, condonation of corruption and dereliction of responsibility.

"But there are three areas where the President has come out more glaringly than many of us thought we knew about him. One is nepotic deployment bothering on clannishness and inability to bring discipline to bear on errant members of his nepotic court. This has grave consequences to the performance of his government to the detriment of the nation.

"It would appear that national interest was being sacrificed in the alter of nepotic interest. What does one make of a case like that of Maina: collusion, condonation, ineptitude, incompetence, dereliction of responsibility or kinship or friendship on the part of those who should have taken visible and deterrent disciplinary action?

"How many similar cases are buried, ignored or covered up and not yet in the glare of the media and the public?

"The third is passing the buck. For instance, blaming the Governor of the Central Bank for devaluation of the naira by 70% or so and blaming past government for it, is to say the least, not accepting one's own responsibility.
