I Disagree That Nigerians Are Impatient, You Are No Longer Popular - Shehu Sani Tells Pres. Buhari

Nigeria's President Mohammadu Buhari has been advised to stop seeing Nigerians as impatient people as the masses have been stretched beyond their limit in their demonstration of unprecedented support for his administration.

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani stated this while reacting the President's New Year address to Nigerians on Monday January 1, 2018.

Mr. Sani said that it was wrong for the President to view Nigerians as impatient people, adding that their love for the president is beyond the usual and even stretched to hypnosis.

"The President said Nigerians are impatient. I disagree with this submission. Nigerians, especially the masses have demonstrated an unprecedented level of patience with this administration.

"The love of the masses for the president is beyond the usual and even stretched to hypnosis.

"The president is not as popular as he used to be but still command an appreciable followership among the poor.

He noted that the only reason for which the poor masses still endure pain and hardship is because they still see the president as their Messiah.

"The poor still him as their Messiah. They endure pain and hardships and see it as sacrifice. They denounce his critics even when they are right. They applaud the president even when he's wrong. In the heart of many if his followers, he's raised to a saintly, angelic,infallible mortal.

He therefore blame a current prevailing situation in the country he describe as "tyrannical atmosphere of fear and silence" on the fanaticism of Mr. Buhari's supporters in some parts of the country.

"Until recently, the fanaticism of the president's supporters in some parts of the country has created a tyrannical atmosphere of fear and silence, we have an institutionalised intolerance to contrary opinion and to be safe is to kow tow.

The senator insisted that Mr. Buhari is the only president in history that can subject the masses to hardship and still enjoy their love and support.

"When the president went on long health vacation, they prayed and never protested, they even chased Charly and could have chocked him if he stayed. PMB is the only president in history that can whip people with koboko and they smile and thank him for the lashes. The masses are patient. And love for the president is the power of their patience.
